We never would have predicted that the perpetually budget-minded crew at Asus would team up with the no-expenses-spared audiophiles at Bang & Olufsen, but the lovechild of their oddball relationship is one to be admired. The 18-inch notebook features an extra-long form factor with side speakers that totally overlap the keyboard, a clean metallic design, and – for some reason – duals touch pads. Don’t laugh – they’re more fun and practical than you think, and Asus claims that eventually software will allow you to use them as turntables.

We knew from the first day of press conferences that this would be the TV to see at CES 2010. Besides using the same type of processor used in the PlayStation 3 and offering native 3D capability, Toshiba has packed it full of every feature we ever could have dreamed of (and some we probably wouldn’t have). A side-by-side video demonstration making last year’s stellar SV670 look weak pretty much sealed the deal for us on the series, although we’re still braced for prices that could suck the magic right out of our early infatuation.

Just when we thought Toshiba’s “Touch of Color” design was getting a little stale, the company threw it away and produced this beauty, which has to be about the slickest HDTV we’ve ever seen. Oh yea, and like every high-end set this year, it will do 3D right out of the box.

The flat body reaches almost sci-fi-like thinness, and because the 11.6-inch screen has touch capability, the bezel is entirely free of buttons except for “home,” just like an iPhone or iPod Touch. Plastic Logic has also forged partnerships with over 300 newspapers and magazines to have their content specially formatted for the device to preserve the print-like formatting – an important aspect of those publications that is largely lost on other e-readers.

Panasonic’s 3D plasma sets get just as much credit as the other 3D TVs at the show, but we chose their 3D camcorder for our Best of CES round up simple because nobody else has shown one yet. Microsoft's Youngest System Engineer

Marco Calasan, 9-year old from Macedonia, is the youngest System Engineer in the world. He holds 4 Microsoft certificates and has written 312-page book on Microsoft’s Windows 7.

Marko, who has a bent for mathematics and physics, was reading and writing by the time he was two years old, and by four he was speaking in English. In a video posted on YouTube (Macedonian), Marko explains that computing is a simple matter of mathematics and following instructions.

With a sweet voice and innocent, Marco explains how she was doing high-quality video streams to the corners of his country, Macedonia. She even provides services for persons with disabilities in the country.
Apparently this kid is different. Not only a genius, she able to speak with the three languages. Currently she is studying English as a fourth language will be mastered.

According to a report in the Times last week, Microsoft presented Marko with games and DVDs after he'd passed the exams, and although he considered it a nice gesture, he said he wasn't "really interested in those things."

       Antivirus (or anti-virus) software is used to prevent, detect, and remove malware, including computer viruses, worms, and trojan horses.        That is what happened to McAfee antivirus just occured last week. They release an antivirus update that crippled corporate and consumer Windows-based computers. The antivirus update called DAT 5958 was caused by most of the users of McAfee a blue screen on their computers and system shutdown. However, McAfee released a what they called SuperDAT remediation tool and DAT 5959 to wipe out and repair the damage done by DAT 5958. At this time, users that are affected by this bad antivirus update is in repair mode on their computers. McAfee isn't the first antivirus software vendor to have wreaked havoc on customer PCs with a bad antivirus update. Trend Micro delivered a bad antivirus update two years ago, and vendor AVG also had a bad antivirus update that year. But McAfee's handling of DAT 5958 this week is meeting with frustration from customers who are bewildered by technical explanations from McAfee and long wait times.

Conflickr Virus Information

Conficker is a virus that started spreading in 2008. It will search for "new instructions" on april 1st. The exploit it used is patched now, you cannot get it anymore unless your computer is not patched (update.microsoft.com to download patches). Simply run an UP TO DATE antivirus scanner, and the virus will be found and removed.

If you have a Mac you are immune.
If you run Linux you are immune.

Google Wireless And The End of The Telephone

If you've been following the technology news cycle, Google announced their intention to bid on the new 700mhz spectrum opened up from the closure of old TV airwaves. As part of this bid Google also announced it will create a totally open, neutral network that anyone can use with with any compatible wireless device.

This move was a total salvo at the Telco's, and their fate sealed in one blow. So in order to save their companies from oblivion and obsolescence, they had no choice but to open their networks too. It only took a few days... Verizon, then AT&T have opened their networks this week.

This is huge.

First, the 700mhz spectrum allows for very high bandwidth, at least 100mb/s to start. Secondly, it has long range, at least 30 miles. Combine this with Google's long-going and continuing acquisition of "dark fiber" and Google has the ability to offer nationwide, high-bandwidth, wireless access to anyone with any conceivable device. With new services like Googol's gTalk along with their gphone is only the beginning. Combine this new ubiquitous, wireless reality with movements like Open Social and OpenID, and within about 10 years, possibly even 5, there is no longer any need for telephone numbers, email addresses, and seperate webspace identities (facebook, myspace, etc.). You simply are who you say you are wherever you go as you intereact in the digital ecosphere. As you interact with people and organizations through your user-defined openID they in turn do the same with you. If someone wants to contact you, rather than "call" using a telephone number they simply contact you from their contact list. This "contact" could be voice, visual, text, multimedia, file exchange, data exchange, fax, document, anything.

The nice thing about OpenID is you control what people know about you - everything from total anonymonity to transparency based on user defined trust and reputation networks. Of course, the move away from traditional telephones is not going to happen overnight, and there will remain millions of phones with traditional numbers for a long time, but for everyone else who has something like openID and a contemporary internet connection, contacting these people is as easy as still entering the number or pulling them up in your contact list, and in their case, it would say 'voice only', or something like that.

It's a compelling vision and one that companies like Google are spearheading. Whether they have longer term, more nefarious intentions remains to be seen, but in the meantime this competition is good for us.
